A Change In Music…
There has been a very big change in the music for wedding ceremonies and wedding cocktail hours for the younger brides and grooms – especially for live performers for wedding ceremony and wedding cocktail hour music.
Many couples are now choosing VIDEO GAME MUSIC to be played live. The most popular video game is FINAL FANTASY and the music from its many volumes. Two weeks ago I played a wedding ceremony on keyboard at a church in Queens New York. The couple selected all video game music for 30 minutes as guests arrived and also for the entire ceremony (she had to get the church permission for me to play the specific video game music she wanted for the ceremony) .
Then I went to Terrace On The Park in Queens to play keyboard for the cocktail hour- again the couple selected all video game songs for me to play at the cocktail hour- but what was different -it was from a variety of different video games not only FINAL FANTASY. One hour cocktail hour of video game music of her choosing. The younger guests were thrilled with the music and the older guests kept mentioning they were not familiar with the music. I have had to orchestrate video game music for my string quartet for weddings. There is no call for the music to be played by DJ’s – they want the music played live.
I had to contact the video game composers in Japan to send me not only video game music but also anime film music (animated films) . All the titles were in Japanese and the New York Japanese Institute was kind enough to translate the titles of all the video games and anime songs (film) music. The video game and anime composers sent me all the music with their compliments from Japan.
