The Penner Scholarship
The Penner Scholarship was established by the late Dorothy Penner, (known to many as Miss Dorothy), a long-time Association of Bridal Consultants (ABC) member who died of cancer in 1998. Miss Dorothy was an ardent supporter of ABC and advocate of participation in the annual conference. The establishment of this scholarship by Miss Dorothy enables your association to award scholarship(s) each year to provide registration fees, and a stipend to Registered Wedding Planners, Vendor, or Auxiliary Member applicants. This year’s award includes the conference fee, and $750.00 to be used for travel and hotel costs.
Over the years, many members have continued to donate funds in memory of Miss Dorothy and her philosophy. Thank you to the many states and local ABC groups that have contributed to this fund. Our association and industry only get better when we educate.
Lessons learned from Miss Dorothy:
Always dress your best.
Etiquette rules will bend but should never be broken.
Be proud of what you do, enough to put your name on it.
You will never know it all. Education is the key to success.
Generosity should be a principle in each person’s life.
Kindness should be the hallmark of your business.
Clients should feel like guests.

“Miss Dorothy” Scholarship Application Requirements:
Submit this completed form.
Must be an ABC Registered Wedding Planner, Vendor or Auxiliary Member at the time of application.
Must be a first-time attendee to the Annual Conference.
Write an essay of 1000 words or less that includes why you want to attend conference; what you expect to receive from attending; how you will apply what you learn to your future success; why did you join ABC, and what, if any, local participation you have had in ABC.
Applications MUST be received by July 31st. The winner(s) will be contacted by September 1st and will be announced at the conference. The scholarship must be used for the current year’s conference. Please DO NOT include personal information (name, state, business name) in the essay.
